I figured I would post my story. I was offered a SAFE mortgage related position pending an acceptable background and financial fitness test. I have a CHP 7 BK that was discharged Dec 2016. I applied for the position April 2017.
At the first financial fitness team e-mailed me asking about my BK. 2 weeks later they denied me, and the job offer was rescinded. I was devastated but I was told that I had a chance to appeal.
Through prayer and the grace of God, I went ahead and appealed. This time around I went into more details elaborating about layoffs, medical debt, ongoing medical expenses, and made sure to include my BK Petition along with my BK discharge (1st e-mail I sent them my BK petition did not attach) I talked about how I took a course on financial responsibility, credit repair, etc (which is required in BK), and highlighted that I have clean credit since BK. But most importantly I PRAYED.
I worked at WF before so I know they can go either way. Not always sympathetic to sob stories but it depends on WHO is reviewing your file.
By God's grace, a week later I received the CARCO I-9 forms and "Congratulations on your new position" e-mail. The recruiter confirmed that I was all set and could start next week. Everything literally came together at the last minute, and I praise God for it.
Just putting this out there to let anybody wondering know that you CAN win an appeal. Pray, pray, pray, and really try include any pertinent documents that can back up what you say.
For previous BK make sure you include your petition. Long documents like that don't always attach properly so double check.
